Um, Hi 2015…
Since I haven’t posted in so long, here is a nice long New Year post to catch you up on my life!
(If this is tl;dr please look at the very last sentence)
Let me start this post by saying I always spend New Years Eve in quirky, unplanned ways. That’s just the way it’s worked out the past few years and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Last year we rang in 2014 a few minutes late because we couldn’t get the TV to work and the group of about 11 people gathered around an Iphone to watch the ball drop.
This year, I rang in 2015 at Applebee’s working as a server. We got champagne at midnight and were each given a bottle to take home, which was so sweet. It was just me and one other girl serving the whole night and we kept so busy, the night went by so fast. It also got crazy very quickly… let’s just say one of my coworkers went over the edge. It was a night I will certainly never forget. What it means for the year to come is a great question.
The year I just said goodbye to was quite the whirlwind for me. It was filled with highs, lows, inspiration, confrontation, lots of love, and lots of change.
I leave 2014 feeling so thankful for all that I have, especially people like you who support me every day. I am so lucky to have such a strong support system and I thank you for taking the time to read my blog.
Last year I set up a list of lifestyle changes (rather than “goals”) for myself. Some of these changes fell to the wayside a bit but I’m very proud of the few I upheld. One was to spend more money on experiences rather than items. I did this with concerts, shows, movies, outings, bonding time, ect. We remember and get more joy out of sharing experiences with others than we do when we spend money on “things” for ourselves [Sidenote: I only went to Forever 21 maybe 4 times last year? – WOW].
I also challenged myself to continue building healthy habits and I certainly ran with it. I ran a 5k, discovered PiYo and Shakeology, became a health and fitness coach, and continued to better myself every day. I’m glad I framed this as a lifestyle change because that’s exactly what happened for me. It took a lot of work and it can still be difficult but it’s something I will continue to work at and improve on. But it feels great!
For 2015 I am going to continue focusing on myself, mostly my career. My priorities are to genuinely listen to people, be more open, and nourish my relationships.
So, the past few years I did this reflection survey and I’ve decided that I am going to make it an annual post! I enjoy the reflection and I certainly hope you do as well! (I’ve changed it a little since last year though!)
Warning: most answers have something to do with meeting Rupert Grint but, I mean, it is the most important thing to ever happen to me…
What did you do in 2014 that you’d never done before?
SO MUCH. I watched a live taping of an MTV show, I performed in a sketch that got removed from the internet, I wrote reviews for a PR company promoting shows in NYC, saw Aladdin and Coriolanus and Hand to God and Annapurna and It’s Only A Play (and lots and lots of theatre!!!), started a book club, read the most books this year than probably ever in one year, #100HappyDays, Got my wisdom teeth removed (FINALLY.), saw my foot on TV, Took an improv class at UCB, performed improv at UCB, rehearsed in central park, went to the birthday party of a comedian who is now on SNL, Started working as a server (and all that goes with that), Became a regular at my starbucks (BASIC – but they call me Bengals Fan which makes it a tiny bit less basic), RAN A 5K!!!!!!!!, Tried PiYo and was successful, Became a Team Beachbody Coach (started my own business), Discovered She-Hulk, MET RUPERT GRINT MET RUPERT GRINT MET RUPERT GRINT MET RUPERT GRINT, Went to NYCC Comic Connnn and met Charles Soule and R.L. Stine, private karaoke, got drunk in the morning and went swinging in a park where I normally babysit children, was told that I’ve grown into a “wonderful woman” by someone I admire, dressed as She-Hulk (not only for Comic Con and Halloween but at an entire work shift), Went to a fancy rooftop NYC party (first legit one with free wine and cheese), Coached and helped my friends meet their goals (officially – I’ve barked help at these people before, it’s official now because of my title), Put myself out there more when it comes to my love life, took part in cinematic history by seeing The Interview in theaters, and most importantly, I got out of my own way.
I’m sure there is more to add to this list, I had so many “firsts” this year, it’s ridiculous. 2014 was really my year, and here’s to hoping it was just the foundation for a better year to come!
Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
